Potential Research Participants

We usually have experiments running in one area or another. Occasionally we recruit participants through the Social Sciences Human Subject Pool; for these experiments participants can earn course credit in certain Psychology or PSB courses. More often, however, our experiments require a more substantial commitment of time — from 4 or 5 to 20 or more hour-long sessions. For these experiments we pay participants for their time at a rate of $10 per hour. If you are interested in being put on a list of possible participants, please email us at mvlab@ss.uci.edu.

Potential Undergraduate Student Lab Members

In any given quarter there are between 5 and 15 undergraduates participating in the lab. The lab has a long history of successfully sponsoring students working on honors projects, UROP-supported research, or SURP summer projects. Undergraduates usually begin by attending our weekly lab meetings, which are informal sessions in which lab members  present or lead research-related discussions. When students find that they are motivated to work on one of our ongoing projects, we work to involve them as fully as possible given their skill level.  Students with a background in mathematics (e.g., calculus or linear algebra), Matlab programming, psychophysics, statistics, or the theories in a substantive area typically find it easier to get involved; however, we have often found that students with a strong interest and commitment can overcome gaps in their background. If you are interested, please contact Prof. Chubb or Prof. Wright.

Potential Graduate Student Lab Members

We have openings for well-prepared graduate students  interested in one or more of our areas of research. Support is available through a combination of research and teaching assistantships.
